Weekend RoundUp: Gillams Wins City of Greater Shepparton International Title

19 August 2019

Scotland’s World No.206 Angus Gillams reigned victorious at the City of Greater Shepparton International tournament held in Australia after he defeated Egypt’s unseeded Moustafa El Sirty in the final.

The two players were facing each other for the second time this month after competing against each other in the final of the Steel City South Australian Open at the start of August, where Gillams also came out on top.

The 24-year-old from Scotland faced tough competition in the final in the form of El Sirty, who had knocked out No.1 seed New Zealand’s Evan Williams in the semi-finals, to reach his second PSA final in as many weeks.

Gillams took the first game comfortably, before El Sirty drew level in the second. The third proved to be a tight contest but went in favour of the higher seeded player, who then went on to see out the tie.

The win marks Gillams’ 10th PSA title and his second title of the month.

Result:
[2] Angus Gillams (SCO) bt Moustafa El Sirty (EGY) 3-1: 11-2, 7-11, 11-8, 11-4 (55m)
