After a fourth consecutive season inside the top 50, New Zealand No.2 Campbell Grayson has cemented himself in the higher echelons of the game.

However, Grayson admitted that his performances at the beginning of the season were not up to standard.

The New Zealander dropped out in the first round of the U.S. Open, Hong Kong Open and the Qatar Classic at the back end of 2018.

He turned his fortunes around in the second half of the campaign, including that victory at the Cannon Kirk Irish Squash Open, along with a runner-up finish at the Crawford Fund Management LLC Open.

“I was disappointed with how I played at the start of the season as I had a few losses in a row and some close losses and I lost a bit of confidence,” he explained.

“However I felt I played a lot better in the second half of the season and was more consistent.”

The New Zealander will be looking for even more in the 2019-2020 season, and he has a clear goal of reaching the next level.

“My main goals for next season are to start the season strongly and try and break into the top 30 and go from there. Also to win more tournaments and keep fighting,” he explained.

Keep a look out for the next player’s review of the 2018-19 season in the coming days, as three-time World Champion Nour El Sherbini reviews her campaign.
