Weekend Round-Up: Masotti, ElSherbini, Bartley and Aijanen win Challenger Tour titles
There was a packed schedule of action on the Challenger Tour over the weekend, with four titles on offer around the world.
In the United States, Baptiste Masotti overcame No.1 seed Campbell Grayson to take the Crawford Fund Management LLC Open title.
Masotti won the final two games of the match to take the victory over the New Zealander, to take his fifth title on the PSA Tour.
The Frenchman only lost two games on his route to the final, which saw him beat Englishman Jaymie Haycocks, Mexico’s Mario Yanez, and then Spaniard Carlos Cornes Ribadas in the last four.
Meanwhile, for the second time in as many weeks, Mohamed ElSherbini overcame Omar Abdel Meguid in an all-Egyptian final to win a Challenger Tour title.
After meeting in the final of the Qualico Manitoba Open last week, the pair faced off in the Lethbridge Pro-Am, with ElSherbini winning out once more.
The World No.74 overcame his Egyptian compatriot in five to take the title, the ninth of his career, from just ten finals.
In Sweden, neither No.1 seed managed to reach their respective finals in either the men’s and women’s tournament of the Cronimet Swedish Squash Open.
The women’s final saw a battle of Britain, as England’s Kace Bartley overcame Scotland’s Alison Thomson to take home the first title of her career.
Miko Aijanen won the men’s title, after beating Frenchman Benjamin Aubert in the final, to secure his third PSA Tour title.
