Weekend Round-Up: Blatchford Clyne Takes Calgary Crown

Olivia Blatchford Clyne secured the sixth PSA Tour title of her career, as she claimed victory at the Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week.

The American was the No.1 seed for the tournament, coming into the week as the World No.19, and she duly delivered as the top seed.

She overcame the No.3 seed, Nada Abbas, in the final. The Egyptian won the first game, but Blatchford Clyne fought back to win the match 3-1, and take the title.

En route to the final, the United States No.2 had dispatched of compatriot Olivia Fiechter, Spain’s Cristina Gomez and Tessa ter Sluis of the Netherlands.

Elsewhere, the final four men in the Perrier Squash Challenge Cup all came from the tournament’s host country, Hong Kong.

However, the No.1 seed Henry Leung did not make it to the final. Instead, Tsz Kwan Lau overcame Chi Him Wong in 38 minutes to secure the title, his fourth on the PSA Tour.

The Bermuda Open played host to both men and women over the last week, for a Challenge 5 event where neither top seed made their respective finals.

Instead, there would be two North American Champions in the Caribbean, as both Marina Stefanoni and Nick Sachvie overcame English opposition.

The 16-year-old American got the better of Anna Kimberley in the women’s final, while Sachvie defeated Jaymie Haycocks in the men’s draw.
