Draw Released For PSA Budapest Open 2024

5 September 2024

Hungarian No.1 Farkas Balazs has been named as one of nine top-50 ranked players set to compete in the PSA Budapest Open 2024, which will take place between 22-26 September at the City Squash Club.

World No.37 Farkas, a winner of 10 PSA events, has been named as the No.3 seed at the Copper-level event, with Argentina’s Leandro Romiglio and Egypt’s Omar Mosaad named as the No.1 and No.2 seeds, respectively.

Farkas has been drawn in the same half of the draw as former World No.3 Mosaad, but before a potential meeting with the Egyptian, he will face one of Seif Shenawy or Toufik Mekhalfi in the second round, and potentially No.5 seed Juan Camilo Vargas in the quarter-final, if the event were to go to seeding. Meanwhile, Mosaad will face either Declan James or Viktor Byrtus in Round 2 after receiving an opening-round bye. No.7 seed Patrick Rooney will also be looking for a strong run after returning from injury earlier this summer.

In the top half of the draw, World No.32 Romiglio will be looking to capture the 13th PSA title of his career and his first since September 2023. The Argentine No.1 can be found in the same quarter of the draw as No.6 seed Mohamed Abouelghar, while No.8 seed Bernat Jaume and No.4 seed George Parker will be two of the other seeded players who will hope for a run into the latter stages of the tournament. Jaume and Parker could meet in the quarter-finals if both were to come through their respective second-round matches.

Away from Farkas, the home crowd will have two other Hungarian players to cheer on, with Benedek Takacs and Barnabas Sali both named as Wildcards in the main draw.
