British Nationals Finals: Watch Live on SQUASHTV

18 August 2024

It’s finals day at the 2024 British National Squash Championships, with just four players remaining in the competition after an exciting week at St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club in Weybridge.

Women’s top seed Georgina Kennedy takes on fellow Englishwoman Sarah-Jane Perry at 17:30, before Mohamed ElShorbagy and Joel Makin go head-to-head for the third season in a row.

All of the action will be shown LIVE on SQUASHTV.

Georgina Kennedy v Sarah-Jane Perry

Georgina Kennedy will aim to get her hands on the British Nationals trophy for the first time and will look to avenge her 2021 final defeat to Perry in the process.

Kennedy comes into the title decider off the back of wins over Olivia Besant, Katie Malliff and Tesni Evans and has beaten Perry in five of their previous nine matches across the PSA Tour, Commonwealth Games and England Squash-sanctioned tournaments.

Perry though will be hoping that experience reigns supreme, with the 34-year-old winning Nationals titles in 2015, 2020 and 2021.

Perry came back from a game down to beat the in-form Emily Whitlock in their last four bout to go with her wins against Georgia Adderley and Isabel McCullough.

After winning their last four matches, Kennedy will be the odds-on favourite today in Weybridge, but if Perry can utilise her undoubted racket skills then squash fans will be in for a treat.

Mohamed ElShorbagy v Joel Makin

For a third year in a row, the men’s final will be contested by Mohamed ElShorbagy and Joel Makin, with the former scoring 3-0 wins over his fellow Briton in both 2022 and 2023.

ElShorbagy boasts a 100 per cent record at the Nationals and has been ruthless in all three of his matches so far at this year’s tournament, with only Patrick Rooney able to take a single game off the 33-year-old.

2021 champion Makin will appear in his fifth straight Nationals title and he has been similarly impressive at this year’s event, earning comfortable victories against Emyr Evans and Rory Stewart before seeing his last four match with Marwan ElShorbagy – Mohamed’s younger brother – cut short due to an injury.

Makin has prevailed in just three of his 13 matches against Mohamed, with his most recent win against the former World No.1 coming in the final of the 2022 Manchester Open.

This is the first final of the season for both of these players, and they will be hoping their summer training will hold them in good stead as they look to end the night with the prestigious trophy.
