British Open 2024: Preview & How to Watch Live

The oldest event on the PSA World Tour returns for its 76th edition tomorrow as players will head to Birmingham to compete for the British Open titles. The event will take place across two venues, Edgbaston Priory and The Rep Theatre with play starting at 12:00 (GMT+1).

Defending champions Ali Farag and Nour Elsherbini are the top seeds for the event as they look to claim their second and fifth titles. Both players will be determined to bounce back strongly after losses in their signature events, the PSA World Championships. The Egyptian duo saw impressive winning streaks come to and at the hands of eventual winners Diego Elias and Nouran Gohar.

The aforementioned World Champions Diego Elias and Nouran Gohar will be full of confidence heading into this years British Open. The pair were both beaten finalists in last year’s event but have recently come into form. Elias is the No.3 seed and has been drawn in the same half as Farag, therefore a rematch of the recent World Champs semi-final is on the cards if seedings go to plan. Gohar is also the third seed in the women’s event and is looking to score a fourth consecutive title on the PSA World Tour but will likely need to beat both higher seeded player Hania El Hammamy and Nour ElSherbini to do so.

There is plenty of home interest in this event with leading players Georgina Kennedy and the Elshorbagy brothers looking to capitalise on the home advantage and put together strong performances. Kennedy is the No.6 seed in the women’s draw and is seeded to face Gohar in the quarter finals. 3x winner Mohamed Elshorbagy will be hopeful of finding some good form in Britain’s biggest event this year, he’s set to face the winner of No.4 seed Mostafa Asal and brother Marwan in the quarter finals.

As mentioned, round one will commence at 12:00 (GMT+1) across four courts. There are plenty of exciting match ups lined up for the opening day including the in-form Greg Lobban taking on India’s Ramit Tandon on court 1 at the Edgbaston Priory Club whilst an entertaining clash between Malak Khafagy and Melissa Alves will be on court 2.

All four wildcards will be in action on the all-glass court at the Rep Theatre as Torrie Malik, Asia Harris, Jonah Bryant and Simon Herbert will look to draw on the home support to advance to round two.
