Ibrahim Back Inside Top 15 for First Time Since February 2023

22 April 2024

Egypt’s Youssef Ibrahim has broken into the top 15 of the PSA Men’s World Rankings for the first time since February 2023 following his quarter-final finish at last week’s Black Ball Open.

Here’s our look at the most notable movers of the week, as of Monday April 22.

Youssef Ibrahim

Previous Ranking: No.17

New Ranking: No.15

Despite being unseeded for the Black Ball Open, Ibrahim battled his way through to the last eight, upsetting No.6 seed Joel Makin en route.

He came close to ousting No.4 seed Mazen Hesham too, but Hesham got the better of him, winning 11-8 in the fifth to bring an end to his tournament.

Miguel Rodriguez

Previous Ranking: No.15

New Ranking: No.14

Colombian veteran Miguel Rodriguez rolled back the years as he came through tricky matches against Yahya Elnawasany and No.5 seed Tarek Momen to reach the quarter-finals of the Black Ball Open.

The 38-year-old tested World No.1 Ali Farag in the last eight too, eventually succumbing to a 3-1 defeat against the eventual runner-up.

Fares Dessouky

Previous Ranking: No.18

New Ranking: No.16

Egypt’s Fares Dessouky also made it though to the quarter-finals in Black Ball, enjoying an upset victory over Frenchman Victor Crouin in the last 16.

His tournament came to an end against eventual champion Mostafa Asal, with the younger Egyptian taking the win by a 3-1 scoreline.

Auguste Dussourd

Auguste Dussourd

Previous Ranking: No.31

New Ranking: No.30

Frenchman Auguste Dussourd re-enters the top 30, with Germany’s Raphael Kandra dropping out.

Kandra’s appearance at the Black Ball Open – where he went out in the first round – saw him play his 17th tournament of the past 12 months, which has meant his divisor rose to 13. This has had an adverse effect on Kandra’s points average, which has dipped below Dussourd’s, meaning the German drops out of the top 30.
