Challenger Tour Roundup: El Torkey Claims Hat-trick In Rotterdam Whilst Ling & Tse Claim Titles In Hong Kong

Unseeded Egyptian Omar El Torkey claimed his third Challenger Tour title in a row yesterday as he claimed the Rotterdam Open title after a stunning week at Victoria Squash Club.

El Torkey needed four games and 50 minutes to defeat Wales’ No.2 seed Elliot Morris Devred in the final. The Egyptian claimed the opening two games 11-7 to place one hand on the trophy but Devred threw some doubt in the occasion as he took the third game 11-5 to give himself a chance at the comeback.

El Torkey squashed the Welshman’s hopes however as he sealed the victory with an 11-8 win in the fourth game.

Over in Hong Kong, Men’s top seed Andes Ling and Women’s No.2 seed Toby Tse claimed the Hong Kong Squash PSA Challenge Cup 2024- 3rd Leg Challenger 3 titles after defeating compatriots Harley Lam and Wong Po Yui Kirstie in the finals.

Tse started strongly in the women’s final as she claimed the opening game 11-5 then followed that up with an 11-8 win in the second to take full control of the final. A spirited showing from Wong in game three resulted in her clawing a game back by winning 11-7 but it wasn’t enough as Tse romped to victory in the fourth game winning 11-8 to claim her third PSA title.

Top seed Andes Ling produced a dominant performance in his final with No.2 seed Harley Lam, winning in straight games in 42 minutes. The pair had met twice before on tour with both scoring victories, the latest of which went to Ling also in straight games.

On this occasion, it was the top seed who claimed two tight opening games 11-8, 11-9 before turning the screw on Lam to win 11-5 in the third and claim a first PSA title.
