Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week: Adderley and Eltayeb to Meet in Final

Georgia Adderley and Salma Eltayeb will meet in the Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week final, after winning two contrasting semi-finals in Alberta, Canada. 

No.2 seed Adderley was playing home favourite and fourth seed Nicole Bunyan to open proceedings in what was their first ever meeting on the PSA Tour, and the pair went toe-to-toe for more than an hour. 

It was Bunyan who got her nose in front at the end of game one, taking her fourth game ball at 11-10 up having seen a 10-7 lead evaporate moments earlier, but Adderley came out firing in the second. 

The Scot raced into a 6-1 lead, albeit only after winning some lengthy rallies, and converted that into 11-4 soon after, levelling the score. 

She then won the third 11-6 and was just three points from victory at 8-5 up in the fourth, but Bunyan was not about to go down without a fight. 

The Canadian erased that deficit and saved a match ball at 10-9, bringing up a game ball of her own at 11-10. 

She was unable to take her chance, though, and while she did save another match ball at 12-11 down, a third would be one too many, with Adderley finally getting over the line with a 14-12 win in the tiebreak. 

The Edinburgh native will now play Egyptian No.3 seed Eltayab for a spot in the final, after she ended the run of compatriot Nour Heikal. 

Heikal had shocked No.5 seed Marie Stephan and top seed Lucy Turmel to reach the semi-finals, but was unable to compete her hat-trick of upsets against Eltayeb. 

Instead, the 19-year-old put in a controlled display, only truly being tested in game two, which went to a tie-break, with games one and three both finishing 11-5 to round out a comfortable win. 

Eltayeb and Adderley will now go head-to-head for the first time ever on the PSA Tour, with both players targeting what would be the biggest title of their careers so far.
