Canadian Open 2024: Preview & How To Watch Live

2 March 2024

The Canadian Men’s Open 2024 presented by AirSprint Private Aviation gets underway tomorrow, with 24 players battling it out for the PSA World Tour Silver title in Calgary.

The event, which will be held at the Bow Valley Athletic Club, will run between March 3-7, and be available to watch live on SQUASHTV.

Former World No.1 Diego Elias tops the draw as No.1 seed and will be looking to pick up his second title of the 2023/24 season, after tasting success at the Motor City Open last month. The ‘Peruvian Puma’ will be hoping to bounce back from his quarter-final exit at the Windy City Open 2024 presented by The Walter Family, a tournament in which he was edged out by Egypt’s Mostafa Asal in five games.

Elias isn’t likely to have it all his own way in Canada though, with World No.7 Mazen Hesham arriving on the back of a semi-final appearance in Chicago, and runner-up finishes in Florida and Houston since the turn of the year. During this impressive run of form, the ‘Black Falcon’ has defeated top ten players such as Mohamed ElShorbagy, Mostafa Asal and Elias. The No.2 seed will open his campaign against one of England’s Tom Walsh or Colombia’s Edgar Ramirez.

The No.3 seed for the event is recent Squash On Fire Open champion Youssef Soliman, who can be found in the same half of the draw as Hesham. The Egyptian, who is currently ranked at World No.12, is seeded to play Daniel Poleshchuk in the second round, before a potential tie against No.5 seed Nicolas Mueller in the last eight.

Home hopes for the event will hang on Canadian duo Connor Turk and No.8 seed David Baillargeon. Turk, who was a wildcard in the 2023 edition of the Canadian Open, won a wildcard playoff to earn a return to the event in 2024. World No.201 Turk will face Ryunosuke Tsukue in the first round, before a potential all-Canadian duel against Baillargeon in Round 2.

Elsewhere in the draw, Qatar’s Abdulla Al-Tamimi is the No.4 seed, France’s Auguste Dussourd has been named the No.6 seed, and Switzerland’s Dimitri Steinmann is the No.8 seed.
