Rhys Evans & Hana Ismail Claim East Glos Open Titles

26 February 2024

Wales’ Rhys Evans and Egypt’s Hana Ismail captured the East Glos Open titles yesterday as they produced confident performances to defeat Jared Carter and Lowri Roberts in the finals.

Wales’ Evans scored a win over New Zealand’s No.2 seed Joel Arscott in the semi-finals, winning in straight games. The Welshman faced England’s Jared Carter in the final. Carter downed top seed James Peach in an hour long five-game contest in his semi-final.

Evans’ fast and furious style was too much for Carter to deal with after his bruising semi-final clash with Peach. The Welshman moved from strength to strength in the final and again scored another straight games win to claim his first PSA title above satellite level.

Egypt’s Hana Ismail moved through to her second PSA final after a comfortable win over top seed Keira Marshall. She would be up against Wales’ Lowri Roberts after the No.2 seed needed just 22 minutes to end the run of Scotland’s Robyn McAlpine.

Ismail took a commanding 2-0 lead in the final, winning the opening two games 11-6, 11-7 to place one hand on the Challenger 3 trophy. Despite Roberts finding better form in the third game to equalise, Ismail bounced back in great style to take the fourth game 11-2 and claim a first PSA title.
