Order Of Play: Semi-Finals

Diego Elias v Fares Dessouky

In the first match of the evening, Peruvian top seed Diego Elias and Egyptian No.4 seed Fares Dessouky square off for the 10th time in their careers.

Elias, who has dominated the Motor City Open in recent seasons, winning the last three editions, has looked a good bet to continue his streak in Detroit with straight-game victories over Cesar Salazar and Nicolas Mueller in his opening matches.

Dessouky, though, is a match for anyone when fully fit and firing, as showcased by his own immaculate record at this year’s competition, with the mercurial Egyptian seeing off Juan Vargas and Mohamed ElSherbini without dropping a game.

Two years ago, Elias defeated Dessouky in the final of the competition, and the former World No.7 will no doubt be itching for revenge on one of Elias’ favourite courts.

Miguel Rodriguez v Paul Coll

The second semi-final sees maverick entertainer Miguel Rodriguez, still going strong at 38 years of age, take on former World No.1 Paul Coll.

No.2 seed Coll will take heart from his excellent recent record against Rodriguez, with the Kiwi winning the last three meetings with just a solitary game dropped along the way.

‘The Colombian Cannonball’, though, will draw upon a wealth of experience and his own strong from in Detroit as he plots an upset, with the No.3 seed battle-hardened after tight wins over Ibrahim Elkabbani and Adrian Waller this week.
