Challenger Tour Player of the Month: Megahed and Altamimi Win December Awards

3 January 2024

Nour Megahed and Ammar Altamimi have won the PSA Challenger Tour Player of the Month awards for December, as voted for by fans on social media.

Egyptian teenager Megahed scooped the women’s prize after winning the Aston and Fincher Sutton Coldfield International at the very start of the month, beating Alison Thomson in the final.

Even more impressive was the fact that Megahed was unseeded for the event, but beat four seeded players en route to glory, including No.1 seed and fellow Egyptian Menna Walid in the semi-finals, coming back from a game down to do so.

The 6k title represents the biggest of Megahed’s career and her second of 2023, following victory at the PSNS President’s Trophy earlier in the year.

She also reached the semi-finals of the Harrogate Squash Open and the last eight of the SODIC Squash Open in the month of December, rising to a career-high ranking of No.107 in the world in the process.

Altamimi also collected his second career PSA Tour title in December, seven years after his first, winning the QSF 6 event in Qatar.

The experienced Kuwaiti did not drop a game all week on his way to lifting the trophy in Doha, losing only nine points in a dominant win over home hopeful Waleed Zaman in the final.

A former top-100 player with a career-high ranking of No.78 in the world, Altamimi will be hoping to use victory at the QSF 6 event as a springboard for more success in 2024.
