Ben Coleman Announces Retirement From Professional Squash

3 January 2024

England’s Ben Coleman has announced his retirement from the PSA World Tour.

Chelmsford-born Coleman, who made his first appearance on the PSA Tour in 2009, reached a highest world ranking of World No.43 in October 2018 and played over 375 matches on tour.

The 32-year-old captured 11 PSA titles during his career, winning his first PSA event at the North of Scotland Open in April 2014 – a profitable season that saw him secure four titles – and most recently claiming the Berkhamsted Open trophy in July 2023.

Coleman also enjoyed a successful junior career, winning both the British Junior U19 Nationals in 2009 and the British U23 National Championship in 2013.

Taking to his personal Instagram account on Wednesday to announce the news, Coleman said: “I never knew when or how I would step away from the PSA World Tour but always hoped I’d know when the time was right. And it feels right.

“The last 13 years have been special. A whirlwind of the highest highs and some real lows, determination, resilience and sacrifice. But I am grateful for every time I have stepped on court – to train, coach and compete. It has made me who I am today.

“I will never take for granted the opportunities I have been lucky enough to experience as a professional athlete and my success on court I will forever be incredibly proud of.

“To the ones that made it possible – my parents, family, friends, fellow players, coaches, sponsors, organisers, supporters – the biggest thank you. It may be an individual sport, but I owe such a lot to the team behind me, who have always had my back.”
