Liechtenstein Open: Rehman Denies Bernet to Claim 14th Tour Title
Experienced Austrian Aqeel Rehman denied rising Swiss star David Bernet a first PSA Tour title, winning the Liechtenstein Open to claim the 14th crown of his own PSA career.
Top seed Rehman had won his first two matches 3-0 to reach the final, and carried that form into his matchup with Bernet, winning in straight games.
Games one and three were one-sided affairs, with Bernet winning just eight points across the two games, but game two was far closer, going deep into a tie break before the Austrian eventually took it 15-13.
Reaching the final still represents an impressive finish to 2023 for 18-year-old Bernet, who had never before gone this deep into a tournament, only once previously making it to the semi-finals.
38-year-old Rehman, meanwhile, collected his 14th Tour title more than a decade after winning his first, the Tasmanian Open back in 2012.
Result: Men’s Final
[1] Aqeel Rehman (AUT) bt [3] David Bernet (SUI) 3-0: 11-5, 15-13, 11-5 (51m)
