El Sherbini & Gawad named PSA World Tour Players Of The Month For October

Egyptian duo Nour El Sherbini and Karim Abdel Gawad have been named as the PSA World Tour Players of the Month for October.

World No.1 El Sherbini, who won the Platinum-level U.S. Open event as well as the Grasshopper Cup 2023 in October, received a 60% share of the vote across PSA World Tour social channels, finishing ahead of Hania El Hammamy (28%) and South Western Open champion Nour El Tayeb (12%).

Meanwhile Gawad, who rose to World No.6 with victory at the Grasshopper Cup 2023, received 46% of the vote, ahead of U.S. Open champion Paul Coll (41%) and QSF 4 conqueror Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi (13%).

El Sherbini has been in impeccable form throughout the opening months of the season, already capturing three titles from a possible four, with her one loss coming to El Hammamy at the Qatar Classic.

The Egyptian lived up to her ‘Warrior Princess’ nickname on her run to the title in Philadelphia, having to battle back from 2-1 down to defeat England’s Georgina Kennedy in the quarter-finals before conquering El Hammamy 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 in the final.

The Grasshopper Cup in Zurich just a week later saw a repeat of this final, with El Sherbini once again rising to the occasion to claim a straight-game win in 63 minutes.

Former World No.1 and World Champion Gawad was back to his very best to capture the Grasshopper Cup crown, having to come through a tough draw that included both ElShorbagy brothers en route to the final.

In the title decider, Gawad guaranteed the Egyptian double would be secured by defeating Welshman Joel Makin in four games and 65 minutes of edge-of-your-seat action.
