Momen & Al Tamimi progress to QSF 4 2023 Final

Egyptian No.1 seed Tarek Momen and home favourite Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi will battle it out for the QSF 4 2023 title in Doha after coming through their respective semi-finals in differing styles.

No.5 seed Al Tamimi, who knocked out Swiss No.4 seed Dimitri Steinmann to reach the last four, was on hand to send another seed toppling, coming through his bout against Frenchman Victor Crouin in five games and 60 minutes of action.

Despite No.2 seed Crouin edging a tight opening game 11-9, Qatar’s Al Tamimi bounced straight back to level proceedings at one game a piece, taking the second 11-8.

The back-and-forth nature of the match continued in the third and fourth games, with both players treating the crowd to some thrilling squash and sending the match to a fifth and final game.

However, it was the QSF 3 2023 champion Al Tamimi who eventually prevailed through the match, taking the tight decider 11-8.

No.1 seed Momen spent 26 minutes less time on court during his comfortable semi-final win over Egyptian compatriot Fares Dessouky, coming away an 11-5, 11-2, 11-9 victor in 34 minutes.

World No.10 and U.S. Open semi-finalist Momen continued his fine early season form, racing out of the blocks and putting his opponent under pressure from the outset.

Dessouky struggled to deal with Momen’s quality in two one-sided opening games, but came back into the bout in the third, forcing the Egyptian to fight all the way to the line for the win.

However, Momen’s experience came to the fore at the right time as he sealed the third game 11-9 to set up a rematch of his and Al Tamimi’s entertaining clash in the third-round of the Qatar Classic in September.
