QSF 3: Al Tamimi to Defend Title Against Eain Yow in Final

14 October 2023

Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi will defend his QSF 3 title against top seed Eain Yow Ng after both players booked their spot in the final.

Playing India’s Velavan Senthilkumar in the first semi-final, Eain Yown cruised through the first two games, dropping only seven points along the way.

He put together runs of winning eight straight points in both games, and while Senthilkumar put up more of a fight in the third, the Malaysian No.1 was never under threat, winning taking it 11-6 to secure a place in the final.

The Asian Games gold medalist trailed for only two points during his semi-final, but will likely face a much sterner test in the form of Al Tamimi.

The Qatari No.1 won this event from the No.3 seeding last year and has looked close to his best again this week at one spot higher.

He had not dropped a game in his first two matches, and that was no different in the semi-finals against Sebastien Bonmalais.

The Frenchman went toe-to-toe with Al Tamimi for much of the first two games, reaching 9-9 in the first and 7-7 in the second, before faltering when it mattered most in both.

He got to 4-4 in the third but from there, the No.2 seed took control, reeling off six points on the bounce to move to the brink of victory, eventually winning it 11-6 to reach his second straight final in this event.

To lift the trophy again, though, Al Tamimi will have to defy a disapointing record against Eain Yow.

The pair have met four times before, with the Malaysian star winning all four matchups, including once in Doha, at the 2018 Qatar Classic.
