Wall and Mead Win PSA Challenger Tour Players of the Month

4 October 2023

English duo Nick Wall and Alicia Mead have been named the PSA Challenger Tour Players of the Month for September, as voted for by fans on social media.

Wall claimed the biggest title of his career last month, winning the Charlottesville Open from the No.6 seeding.

The 23-year-old had to battle through five games in both his opening match with Christopher Gordon and his semi-final against David Baillargeon, as well as coming from a game down to beat top seed Leonel Cardenas in the last eight.

He then saw off fellow Englishman Nathan Lake in the final to capture the first PSA Challenger Tour 30 title of his career.

Like Wall, Mead also secured the biggest win of her career, beating Marta Dominguez Fernandez in the final of the Pader Open, a PSA Challenger Tour 12 event.

As Wall did in Charlottesville, Mead came into the tournament as the No.6 seed, and had to get past fellow Brit Asia Harris in round two, before beating Egyptian duo Nardine Garas – the second seed – and No.7 seed Haya Ali to reach the final.

The final itself was a drama-filled, back-and-forth affair, with the first four games shared and each separated by four points or less. Mead, though, was able to pull clear of the Spaniard in the fifth, securing it 11-5 to wrap up the biggest prize of her professional career.

She also moved up to a career-high ranking of No.67 as a result of her win.
