Tuanku Muhriz Trophy: Subramaniam & Hussein Dominant on Finals Day

28 August 2023

The Tuanku Muhriz Trophy 2023 came to a close yesterday as the winners of the Challenger 15 events were crowed in Seremban, Malaysia.

Top seed Sivasangari Subramaniam took the women’s title as she overcame compatriot and one to watch Aira Azman in straight games in the final. The former World No.16 took the opening two games both 11-8 to place on hand on the trophy. Subramaniam was always in control and looked confident as she moved Azman into all four corners of the court. She continued this in game three and despite Azman pushing her close, the top seed prevailed 11-9 to capture her 12th career title.

In the men’s final, Egypt’s Aly Hussein continued his fine form as he despatched No.2 seed Muhammad Asim Khan in straight games to life the trophy. Hussein was dominant from the very start, moving Khan around the court expertly at a fast pace. Khan had no answers in the opening games as he lost 11-3, 11-1 to give the 23-year-old a 2-0 lead.

It wasn’t long before Hussein was lifting the trophy as he claimed the third game 11-4 to win his third and biggest PSA title.
