EVENT ROUND-UP: Grinham, Creed and Jaume taste title success

Former World No1 Rachael Grinham claimed the 2017 Australian Open title with a straight games win over second seed Sivasangari Subramaniam.

Top seed Grinham, who reversed the result from the recent Queensland Open by beating Australian team mate Christine Nunn in the semi-finals, used all her experience to see off the Malaysian 11-5, 11-9, 11-7 to claim the crown.

In the men’s event, 2016 World Junior Champion Eain Yow Ng followed up his surprise semi-final win over top seed Rex Hedrick to defeat Australia’s Josh Larkin 13-11, 11-6, 11-9

Saskatoon Boast 2017

It was second time lucky for Peter Creed at the Saskatoon Boast as the Welshman saw off Switzerland’s Reiko Peter to claim the title.

Top seed Creed started error free to take the opening game and capitalised on uncharacteristic tins by the Swiss player to move two games ahead.

Creed continued to pressure Reiko with holds and drops and quickly mounted a 5-1 lead in the third. A tin from the Welshman offered a glimmer of hope for Reiko to mount a comeback but the top seed proved too strong to become te 2017 Boast champion.

Romanian Open 2017

Spain’s Bernat Jaume upset the seedings to take lift the Romanian Open title with a 3-1 win over Austria’s Aqeel Rehman.

Fourth-seeded opened up a two-game lead over Rehman before the top seed hit back to take the third 11-8.

However Jaume recovered his composure to see out the match, winning 11-3 in the fourth.
