Khafagy Wins LBSQUASH Summer Pro

Egypt’s World No.66 Malak Khafagy has won the 2023 J.P. Morgan LBSQUASH Summer Pro following a 3-0 win over India’s World No.78 Akanksha Salunkhe last night at Greenwich Academy.

Top seed Khafagy had progressed to the final of the PSA Challenger 5 event courtesy of a straightforward 3-0 win over France’s Julia Le Coq in the previous round, while No.2 seed Salunkhe was forced to come back from two games down to beat USA’s Caroline Fouts in a gripping semi-final contest.

Khafagy had been on court for just 24 minutes during her semi-final match – compared to 55 minutes for Salunkhe – and required just one additional minute to get the better of her final opponent.

Salunkhe threatened to take the match into a fourth game following a spirited fightback in the third, but Khafagy held her nerve to record an 11-4, 11-8, 12-10 victory.

The 19-year-old now has two PSA Challenger Tour titles to her name following her win at the Odense Open back in March.
