ECP Open: Damming Claims Victory After Epic Final

29 May 2023

Dutchman Rowan Damming secured his second title of the campaign after winning a 96-minute final at the ECP Open on the Tour de las Americas.

The reigning World Junior Champion came into the Challenger 5 level competition, the last on this year’s Tour de las Americas, as the No.5 seed.

After a first-round bye, the Dutchman got his campaign underway with a straight games victory over Colombia’s Felipe Tovar. He then followed that with wins over No.3 seed Joeri Hapers, and Brazil’s Pedro Mometto to make it through to the final.

The final saw Damming take on Colombia’s Andres Herrera, the No.2 seed, and it was an epic. The pair were level after two games before the Colombian took a tight third game to move into the lead.

Herrera then had his opportunity to claim the win in the fourth game, but Damming fought back to take it 13-11. That gave him the momentum, but the fifth game also went to a tie-break as well. It would be the Dutchman that would eventually take home the title, winning the final after 96 minutes.
