Brussels Dronsfields QF: Pelaez Joins Top Four Seeds In Semis

After knocking out the tournament’s top seed in the opening round, Colombia’s Catalina Pelaez then downed the No.5 seed to make the semis.

The Colombian started her week at the Brussels Dronsfields Mercedes Benz, the first Challenger Tour event to be held in Belgium since 2018, but downing top seed Yasshmita Jadishkumar in a five-game battle in the opening round of the Challenger 3 level competition.

She then backed that up in the quarter finals, overcoming Danish No.1 Klara Moller in her second match of Friday’s play. The first two games were comfortable for the former World No.56, with the third being more difficult. The third went to a tie-break, but Pelaez was able to come through it 14-12 to seal a straight games victory.

The Colombian will now face Spain’s Sofia Mateos, after the No.4 seed defeated Frenchwoman Taba Taghavi in three games. The other semi-final will see France’s Lea Barbeau and England’s Kiera Marshall go head-to-head after the pair both won in straight games on Friday evening.
