Fiechter Withdraws From Upcoming El Gouna International

World No.9 Olivia Fiechter has withdrawn from the upcoming El Gouna International, which will take place from May 26 to June 2, due to a back injury.

The news comes a day after compatriot Amanda Sobhy pulled out of the Platinum level competition, meaning the top two American women will not feature in the last major tournament of the season.

Fiechter’s withdrawal also puts pay to her chances of reaching the season-ending CIB PSA World Tour Finals, with the El Gouna international being the last tournament to garner points in an attempt to qualify in the top eight.

The American was the No.6 seed for the event, and her withdrawal will see England’s Georgina Kennedy, who reached the final of the Manchester Open last week, move into the top eight seeds. Canada’s Hollie Naughton will now become a 9/16 seed, and also receive a bye through the opening round.

Hong Kong’s Tsz-Wing Tong will move into the 17/32 seeding bracket, replacing Naughton. She will now face Frenchwoman Marie Stephan in the first round. Switzerland’s Cindy Merlo will take the empty position in the draw, and will take on Egypt’s Zeina Mickawy in the opening round on Friday.

The El Gouna International takes place from May 26 – June 2, with all the glass court action being shown live on SQUASHTV throughout the tournament.
