B&R Open SF: Baillargeon and Romiglio Into Final

12 March 2023

Canadian No.1 David Baillargeon and Argentinian No.1 Leandro Romiglio will meet in the final of the B&R Open in Toronto.

Home favourite Baillargeon came into the competition as the No.4 seed, and he met the surprise package of the event, England’s Tom Walsh, on Saturday evening. The pair had met once before, with the Canadian coming out on top on home soil at the Oxford Properties Canadian Open in 2022.

The same result would occur on Saturday, with Baillargeon being in complete control throughout. He won all three games by a scoreline of 11-5 to book a berth in his third final of the season, following wins at the Wakefield PSA and the MRU Open.

Argentina’s Romiglio is the other semi-finalist, after he got the better of a top three seed for the second day in succession. The tournament’s No.6 seed downed American Timothy Brownell, the No.3 seed, with a third game tie-break being crucial. The Argentine won it 12-10, before going on to claim the fourth game as well, to advance to the final in Toronto.

The finals of the B&R Open will take place in Toronto on Sunday, March 12. You can keep up to date with daily updates from the tournament on the PSA Challenger Tour’s Twitter and Facebook
