UWE Bristol Open SF: Top Seeds Downed In Semis

12 March 2023

Semi-finals day at the University of the West of England Bristol Open was a surprising one, with three of the top seeds knocked out of the competition.

Both of the top two seeds were beaten in the women’s event, in very different styles. Scotland’s Alison Thomson got the better of top seed Anna Kimberley in a tight four-game contest, regrouping after the Englishwoman had won the third to take the fourth game to move through to the final.

She will face No.3 seed Asia Harris in the final on Sunday, after the Englishwomen defeated Malaysia’s Yasshmita Jadishkumar in straight games. Despite the opening two games both going to tie-breaks, the match only lasted 20 minutes. Harris won 12-10, 13-11, 11-7 to book her spot in the final.

In the men’s event, Welshman Elliott Morris Devred defeated the top seed as well. He got the better of England’s James Peach in straight games to book his place in the final. He will now take on England’s Stuart MacGregor on Sunday, after the Englishman came from two games down to defeat Irish No.1 Sam Buckley.

The finals of the University of the West of England Bristol Open will be played on Sunday, March 12. You can keep up to date with daily updates from the tournament on the PSA Challenger Tour’s Twitter and Facebook. Live scores are available on the PSA World Tour website here
