Fiechter and Momen Move Into Top Eight Of Road To Egypt Standings

8 March 2023

USA’s Olivia Fiechter and Egypt’s Tarek Momen have jumped up into the top eight of the Road to Egypt standings after their respective performances in Philadelphia and Cairo.

The CIB PSA World Tour Finals includes both a men’s and women’s tournament featuring eight players each and brings together all PSA World Tour Platinum title winners. Any remaining places are allocated to the highest ranked players on the CIB Road to Egypt Standings, with points on offer at all PSA World Tour events during the season.

Fiechter took the title at the Chestnut Hill Classic presented by Springside Chestnut Hill Academy on Sunday afternoon. She defeated compatriot Olivia Clyne in the final to win at her home club, for her second title of the 2022-2023 campaign.

The American has moved up to 6th in the standings, behind an unchanged top five. World No.1 Nouran Gohar took the title at the Black Ball Squash Open, and has extended her lead at the top. She now has 12,195 points this season, more than 2,500 points more than her nearest rival.

Gohar has also automatically qualified for the season-ending CIB PSA World Tour Finals, along with Nour El Sherbini (2nd) and Hania El Hammamy (3rd), with the top three having all won Platinum events this season. New Zealand’s Joelle King (4th) and Nour El Tayeb (5th) remain above Fiechter, while Amanda Sobhy (7th) and Georgina Kennedy (8th) also occupy qualification spots.

After reaching the final of the Black Ball Squash Open, former World No.3 Tarek Momen has moved back into the top eight in the men’s standings. He jumps up two places to sit in 8th in the latest Road to Egypt standings.

After taking victory in Cairo for the first time in his career, England’s Mohamed ElShorbagy remains in 2nd, but has closed the gap at the top to under 2,000 points. Peru’s Diego Elias is still the man to beat, with the pair also having automatically qualified for the CIB PSA World Tour Finals after winning Platinum events this season.

Mostafa Asal (4th) and Ali Farag (9th) have also automatically qualified for the event, with Farag definitely in despite not being in the top eight as it stands. Currently, Farag would take Momen’s place in the top eight for the season-ending tournament.

Marwan ElShorbagy (3rd), Victor Crouin (5th), Mazen Hesham (6th) and Paul Coll (7th) are the other men inside the top eight following the Black Ball Squash Open.

There are three more events on the PSA World Tour this month. The GillenMarkets Canary Wharf Classic and Optasia Championships are both PSA World Tour Gold events for the men. The Canadian Women’s Open, a PSA World Tour Bronze level event, will end the month’s action.

The next Platinum level event, which will be another chance to guarantee a spot at the season-ending CIB PSA World Tour Finals, will be the British Open. The tournament, moved to Birmingham for 2023, will take place from April 9-16. All the action from these four tournaments will be on SQUASHTV.
