Guilfoyle Squash Classic SF: Malik and Lee Set Up Surprise Final

4 March 2023

The top two seeds were knocked out in the semi-finals of the Guilfoyle PSA Squash Classic, with England’s Curtis Malik and Charlie Lee through to the final.

Malik came up against top seed Todd Harrity in the last four of the Challenger 10 level competition, which is taking place at the Toronto Cricket, Skating & Curling Club. The Englishman was in trouble during the match, falling two games behind to the World No.38.

However, from there, the No.7 seed was able to fight back in incredible fashion. He won both the third and fourth by an 11-4 scoreline to level the contest, before then claiming victory after winning the deciding fifth game 11-6. The world No.58 is through to his 11th Tour final, and his first since September.

He will take on compatriot Charlie Lee in the final on Saturday in Toronto, after his fellow Englishman downed No.2 seed Nathan Lake. Like Malik, Lee fell behind in their semi-final contest after losing the first 11-8.

Like his compatriot, though, Lee was able to fight through to down another seed. He had already gotten the better of Canadian David Baillargeon and Hong Kong’s Tsz Kwan Lau, and after winning the second, third and fourth games of his semi-final contest, he downed the No.2 seed to make the final of the Challenger 10 level event.

The final of the Guilfoyle PSA Squash Classic will take place on Saturday, March 4 between the English duo of Charlie Lee and Curtis Malik.
