Fiechter and Kennedy Into Carol Weymuller Open Final

England’s Georgina Kennedy and home favourite Olivia Fiechter will meet in the final of the Carol Weymuller Open on Sunday afternoon.

Fiechter, the World No.10, came up against Egypt’s Yathreb Adel, who was in a strong run of form. The Egyptian had defeated World No.13 Salma Hany in straight games in the last eight of the competition, but the American was in control throughout their semi-final contest.

The American, who is aiming for a first PSA World Tour title this week, took the opening game of their clash 11-6, before then managing to come through a second game tie-break 12-10. The third also finished 11-6 to the World No.10, as she booked her spot in a second World Tour final, following her defeat to Nele Gilis in Kuala Lumpur in November.

In the other semi-final, England’s Georgina Kennedy got the better of Japanese No.1 Satomi Watanabe to make it through to her first final in twelve months, following her victory at the Cleveland Classic in January 2022.

The Englishwoman, who is also featuring for the first time on Tour in a couple of months after recovering from injuries, won the first two games in tight fashion to hold a commanding lead. The third went to a tie-break, but Kennedy was able to clinch it 13-11, to secure a straight games victory, and to move through to the final.

The final of the Carol Weymuller Open will see World No.10 Olivia Fiechter and England’s Georgina Kennedy battle it out for the PSA World Tour Bronze level title in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon.
