Daly College Open QF: Singh Keeps Home Hopes Alive

The semi-finalists of the DALY COLLEGE & SQUASHXTREME SRFI OPEN 2022 have been decided as No.2 seed Abhay Singh keeps home hopes alive as he moves through to the final four in Indore, India.

Singh is bidding to claim a sixth title of 2022 in the final PSA event of the year and moved through to the semi-finals in confident style, overcoming Egypt’s Seif Ashraf in a 25-minute 3-0 encounter. Singh was tested in the second game but managed to hold on to win 11-9 before winning 11-5 in the third to reach the final four.

Singh’s opponent will be surprise semi-finalist Marco Levy from France. The Frenchman defeated younger brother of women’s World No.1 Nouran Gohar, Mohamed. The Egyptian took the opening game 12-10 to lead 1-0 but back came Levy. The European took the second and third games 11-7, 11-8 before securing the match on a tiebreak in the fourth game, 12-10 in 57 minutes.

The other semi-final will be an all-Egyptian affair between the No.1 and No.3 seeds Zahed Salem and Aly Hussein. Former World No.14 Salem converted a tough first game 12-10 against talented Indian Velevan Senthilkumar 12-10 before comfortably closing out the next two games 11-5, 11-8 to secure the 3-0 win.

Hussein overcame No.8 seed Veer Chotrani in four games to make the semi-finals. Chotrani captured th first game 11-9 but was unable to continue his momentum in the match which allowed the Egyptian to move ahead and play the big points well to win the following three games 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 to advance to the semi-finals.
