St George’s Hill: Todd Claims Third Win Of 2022

England’s Sam Todd continued his stellar year, by becoming the latest three-time winner on Tour in 2022, after his victory at the St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club Open.

The 19-year-old came into the Challenger 10 level competition as the No.2 seed, and he started his campaign in Weybridge against compatriot James Peach. He won out in four games, only losing the third on a tie-break, to get his week underway.

Todd, who had already won the EM Noll Classic and the Concourse Athletic Club Open in 2022, then downed good friend Ben Smith in the last eight, coming from a game down to move through to the semi-finals. There, he defeated No.5 seed Ben Coleman in a 60-minute straight games victory.

He came up against Miles Jenkins, the club professional and tournament director, in the final. Their last meeting came in a final, where Todd won the Aston and Fincher Sutton Coldfield International, and he did the same this time in Weybridge.

The opening game was a lengthy one, with the Yorkshireman coming out on top 15-13 to hold the advantage in the match. However, Jenkins fought back to win the second game 11-9, but saw the 19-year-old win the third with a reversal of that scoreline. The fourth was easier for the No.2 seed, as Todd took 11-4 to claim the victory, his third of the year on Tour.
