David Lloyd Purley Open SF: All-English Finals Day Set

It will be an all-English finals day at the Telsa Media David Lloyd Purley Open, with Torrie and Perry Malik both making it through. They will face Asia Harris and Finnlay Withington, respectively.

Perry Malik took on top seed Miles Jenkins on semi-finals day at the Challenger 3 level competition, and he came through in straight games to cause an upset. He won the first game 11-5, before a tighter second game also went his way. Malik claimed the second 11-8, and kept the momentum in his favour, moving through to the final thanks to an 11-6 scoreline in the third.

He will now face Finnlay Withington, the No.6 seed, in the final. The Englishman took on New Zealand’s Joel Arscott in the semis, and dropped just 15 points in the contest. He won the first game 11-3, and then won both the second and third games 11-6 to advance through to the final of the competition.

The final in Croydon will be a repeat of the British National Junior Championships final from two weeks ago. On that day, Torrie Malik defeated Asia Harris to claim her fifth age-group nationals title, and the pair will do battle in Sunday’s final at the Telsa Media David Lloyd Purley Open as well.

Malik spent just 24 minutes on court in her semi-final with compatriot Kiera Marshall, winning in straight games. Meanwhile, Harris had to defeat fellow Englishwoman Isabel McCullough in four games to make her way through.

The finals of the Telsa Media David Lloyd Purley Open will take place on Sunday, November 13, with the Malik siblings taking on Finnlay Withington and Asia Harris for the Challenger 3 level crowns.
