New Zealand Open 2022: Preview & How To Watch Live

The Barfoot & Thompson New Zealand Open 2022 & Robertson Lodges New Zealand Open 2022 both get underway tomorrow from Tauranga, New Zealand. Following the completion of the Nations Cup, two Silver level events will take place from the Bay of Plenty, running from November 8-13 at the Trustpower Baypark Arena and the Devoy Squash & Fitness Centre.

Glass court action from the Trustpower Baypark Arena will be streamed LIVE on SQUASHTV, whilst another glass court at the Devoy Squash & Fitness Centre will be on psaworldtour.com, starting from 13:00 (GMT+13). 16 players will look to book their places in the second round of the inaugural tournament to join 16 seeded players who have received byes. Both New Zealand No.1s Joelle King and Paul Coll are the top seeds for the event and will look to go one better than their result in the Nations Cup where they finished runners-up.

England Nations Cup winners Sarah-Jane Perry and Mohamed ElShorbagy are the second seeds for the tournament. The latter has already captured two higher calibre events this season, the Oracle Netsuite Open Gold event and the QTerminals Qatar Classic Platinum event. The Englishman overcame Coll in the U.S. Open quarter final as well as the Nations Cup final and will be determined to repeat that success if the pair meet in the final as they are seeded to do so.

Home interest on day one comes from wildcards Lwamba Chileshe and Kaitlyn Watts as they take on Canada’s David Baillargeon and Scotland’s Lisa Aitken respectively. Chileshe is ranked 99 in the current PSA world rankings whereas Watts is slightly higher at 88 and both NZ No.2s.
