Bordeaux Gradignan: Stewart Claims Second Title Of Season

Scotland’s Rory Stewart added to his tally of victories this season with a win over Frenchman Benjamin Aubert in the final of the PSA Bordeaux Gradignan on Sunday afternoon.

The Scot came into the tournament as the No.3 seed, and after receiving a bye through the opening round’s action, he then defeated home hope Edwin Clain in straight games to kick off his campaign. A solid 11-6, 11-5, 11-5 win saw him move through to the last eight.

In the quarter finals, Stewart defeated No.6 seed Ivan Perez in a tightly-contested straight games win. The third game went deep into a tie-break, with the Scot winning it 15-13. He then overcame the challenge of Portuguese No.1 Rui Soares in four games in the semis, taking the last two of those comfortably to book his spot in the final.

The final pitted Stewart against Frenchman Benjamin Aubert, who had started the week unseeded. It was the home favourite that took the first game 12-10, but from there, Stewart was in control, winning the next two games by an 11-4 scoreline. Aubert was clearly struggling with an issue, and after a point of the fourth game, and to retire through injury. Stewart has claimed his second title of the season, following a win at the St Louis Open presented by Mosby Building Arts.
