Davies Lifts Maiden Title in Securian Open

England’s Ashley Davies lifted his first ever PSA World Tour title after battling to a hard-fought 3-2 victory over top seed Arthur Gaskin in the final of the Securian Open, PSA M5 tournament held in St. Paul, United States.

Both players received byes in the opening round and they put their fresh legs into good use as they motored through the quarter-final and semi-final stages.

Davies, the World No.125, overcame home player Faraz Khan in the last eight, before moving on to recover from a game down to defeat good friend Reuben Phillips, reaching only his second PSA World Tour process in the final.

Meanwhile, Gaskin only had to play one match throughout the tournament as his quarter-final victory over Julian Illingworth was followed up with a walkover against Charlie Johnson, who had to withdraw on medical grounds after becoming unwell during his quarter-final clash with Scotland’s Jon Geekie.

The showpiece finale saw World No.90 Gaskin build up a 2-1 lead, before a resurgent Davies fought back to prevail in the fourth and fifth games, wrapping up a 4-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8 victory to claim his maiden Tour crown.
