Combaxx International Championships: El Sirty and Aboelkheir Victorious

24 October 2022

The Egyptian duo of Moustafa El Sirty and Fayrouz Aboelkheir took the titles at the CAS – Serena Hotels/Combaxx International Squash Championships in Islamabad, Pakistan on Sunday afternoon.

El Sirty came into the men’s Challenger 30 level competition as the top seed, with the World No.27 receiving a bye through to first round’s action. He started his campaign in the last 16 with a four-game victory over Pakistan’s Hamza Khan.

The Egyptian then got the better of compatriot Ibrahim Elkabbani in the quarter finals of the tournament, before having to battle past Hungarian No.1 Balazs Farkas in the quarters. He found himself 2-1 down, but fought back to win in five to book his spot in the final.

El Sirty took on another Egyptian, in No.2 seed Mohamed ElSherbini, in the final in Islamabad, and after dropping the first game 11-4, he came through to win with ease. The World No.27 won the next three games to secure the crown, his biggest on Tour to date.

The women’s Challenger 10 level title was claimed by Egypt’s Fayrouz Aboelkheir, who equalled her biggest title to date. After receiving a bye through the opening round of action, she faced off against Pakistan’s Rushna Mehboob in the second round, dropping just nine points in the process.

That was followed with wins against in straight games against German’s Katerina Tycova and Spaniard Marta Dominguez Fernandez. The 16-year-old took on compatriot Malak Khafagy in the final, and she withstood a late comeback from her fellow Egyptian to win in five games, to secure the Challenger 10 level title.
