Concourse Athletic Club Open SF: Hussein and Todd Down Top Seeds

16 October 2022

The surprises kept coming at the Concourse Athletic Club Open, as Egypt’s Aly Hussein and England’s Sam Todd knocked out the tournament’s top two seeds to set up a meeting in the final of the Challenger 10 level tournament.

Hussein, the No.6 seed for the event, joined the top three seeds in the semi-finals, and he took on USA’s Faraz Khan. The World No.50 was the top seed, and the American won the first game 11-5. However, a second game tie-break went the way of Hussein, and the young Egyptian carried that momentum throughout the rest of the contest. He dropped just ten more points en route to a 3-1 victory.

The Egyptian will now face England’s Sam Todd in the final after the No.3 seed defeated No.2 seed Muhammad Asim Khan. A first game tie-break went the way of the Englishman 12-10, and he then doubled that advantage in the match. The third also went to a tie-break, with Khan having his chances to stay in the contest. However, it was Todd who took it, also by a 12-10 scoreline, to win in straight games to advance to Sunday’s final.

The final of the Concourse Athletic Club Open will take place on Sunday, October 16, with Aly Hussein and Sam Todd going head-to-head for the Challenger 10 level title in Atlanta, Georgia.
