Concourse Athletic Club Open QF: Hussein Joins Top Three Seeds

15 October 2022

After earlier shocks in the tournament, No.6 seed Aly Hussein has joined the top three seeds in the semi-finals of the Concourse Athletic Club Open in Atlanta, Georgia.

In the second round, Canada’s Darosham Khan had caused an upset to defeat No.4 seed Jsue Enriuez. The Canadian then took on Hussein in the quarter finals of the Challenger 10 level tournament. It was the No.6 seed who was in control throughout, dropping just 13 points in the match. He won out 11-2, 11-7, 11-4 in 38 minutes to advance to the last four.

Hussein will now face top seed, and home favourite, Faraz Khan. The American overcame England’s Finnlay Withington in a four-game battle. The World No.50 took the opening two games, but saw the World Junior Championships runner-up fight back to make it 2-1. Khan regrouped, winning the fourth 11-3 to book his semi-final spot.

The other match of the last four will see Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan and England’s Sam Todd, the No.2 and No.3 seeds for the event, face off. Todd won in three against Finland’s No.1 Henrik Mustonen, while Khan had to go the distance in his quarter final. The Pakistani had to come from 2-1 down to defeat Guatemala’s Alejandro Enriquez, eventually winning in five after 77 minutes.

The last four will go head-to-head at the Concourse Athletic Club on Saturday, October 15. The winners of those matches will then face off for the Challenger 10 level final on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.
