Marwan ElShorbagy Back In Top 8

10 October 2022

Egypt’s Marwan ElShorbagy is back into the world’s top eight players after overtaking compatriot Mazen Hesham in the PSA World Rankings for the week commencing October 10th.

The 29-year-old, who was ranked World No.3 in November 2018, slipped to World No.9 in May 2022 after a run of 28 consecutive months within the top eight.

Thanks to his exploits in the Silver-level Oracle NetSuite Open, in which ElShorbagy, seeded No.4, overcame Cesar Salazar, Miguel Rodriguez and World No.4 Diego Elias before falling to his older brother and World No.5 Mohamed ElShorbagy in the final, ‘the Jackal’ is now back in the top eight.

With the younger ElShorbagy looking in fine form at the Platinum-level U.S. Open, which is currently underway at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center, he will be eyeing an even higher ranking after crashing out in the second round last year.

Elsewhere, the rest of the men’s top 20 rankings are unchanged. Paul Coll, who returned to World No.1 in last week’s rankings, maintains his place at the top to go into his 15th week as the world’s top ranked player, with World Champion Ali Farag of Egypt holding his place in second.

The biggest mover on the men’s tour was Zane Patel, who jumped 514 places from World No.833 to World No.319 after his wildcard appearance at the Oracle NetSuite Open.
