Crouin and El Hammamy Named PSA World Tour Players of the Month for September

5 October 2022

France’s Victor Crouin and Egypt’s Hania El Hammamy have been named as the PSA World Tour Players of the Month for September following their strong starts to the new season.

After making it to the final of the CIB Zed Open in August, the Frenchman continued his good start to the campaign by surprising everyone at the QTerminals Qatar Classic. Not only did he make a first Platinum quarter-final and semi-final, but Crouin made it all the way to the final, where he finished runner-up to Mohamed ElShorbagy.

Just a couple of days later, he became the star of the show on home soil, as he came through the field to win the Open de France de Squash. Crouin defeated Marwan ElShorbagy in the final, in front of a raucous audience at Hangar 24 in Nantes.

In the process, Crouin made the move up to World No.10. He became the first male French player to be ranked inside the world’s top ten in over three and a half years. Gregory Gaultier was the last Frenchman inside the top ten, ranked at World No.9 in January 2019.

Joining Crouin as the PSA World Tour’s Player of the Month for September is Egypt’s Hania El Hammamy, who claimed yet another major title and a new ranking in the process over the last month.

Her last Platinum event ended in victory, when she came back from the brink to defeat World No.1 Nouran Gohar at the El Gouna International.

It was pretty much copy and paste at the Pyramids last week. El Hammamy got the better of Gohar again, this time winning 3-1, to claim her first CIB Egyptian Open crown.

Prior to the final, El Hammamy had already broken new ground. Thanks to her semi-final win against Nour El Sherbini, she was guaranteed to become World No.2 on Monday, September 26, moving into the top two for the first time. It also broke a two-year dominance of the top two by Gohar and El Sherbini as well.
