Hong Kong duo Tang Ming Hong and Chi Him Wong will face off in the final of the Contrex Challenge Cup, PSA M5 tournament after they managed respective victories over Yeung Ho Wai and Tsz Kwan Lau in the last four.

Number three seed Tang came up against Yeung who, after battling through qualification and then dispatching second seed Eain Yow Ng and eighth seed Henry Leung en route to the semi-final, had proved himself a dangerous proposition.

After going two games to the good, Tang then surrendered his lead after a determined Yeung dug in to set up a nail-biting decider. Both players fought tooth and nail to get the better of one another, but it was Tang who managed to edge the win by a narrow two-point margin.

“This is my first PSA World Tour final, so I am excited to come through in five games,” said Tang.

“I executed my game plan well in the first two games, but I was feeling tired in the third and fourth. In the fifth, I just gave it all I had and won with some luck.”

Chi, meanwhile, eased into a one-game lead against Lau for the loss of just three points, but had to fend off a much improved display from his opponent in games two and three to take them on the tie-break. Tang and Chi are set to meet for the fourth time on the PSA World Tour, with Chi winning the last two.

“I am happy to win in straight games and to fulfil my expectations of getting to the final,” Chi said.

“We [Chi and Tang] have played each other so many times and we both know each other well, so I will just do my best for tomorrow and hope everything will work out.”
