Second Seed Eain Yow Suffers Shock Exit in Contrex Challenge Cup

Malaysian number two seed Eain Yow Ng succumbed to a surprise defeat against qualifier Yeung Ho Wai of Hong Kong in the opening round of the Contrex Challenge Cup, PSA M5 tournament.

Eain Yow has had a strong first half of 2016, earning his maiden PSA World Tour title in April’s Malaysian Squash Tour II and breaking into the world’s top 150 in this month’s rankings, but a lacklustre performance against local player Yeung saw him fall to a shock 11-3, 11-8, 11-8 defeat.

Yeung’s reward is a quarter-final clash with compatriot Henry Leung, with Leung emerging victorious from his first round fixture courtesy of a four-game triumph and the World No.259 will look to reach his first ever semi-final.

Top seed Chi Him Wong is also through to the last eight after he dispatched wildcard Harley Lam in straight games. Lam, 17, performed admirably and stayed within touching distance of Chi for the majority of the match, but Chi’s superior experience eventually told as he forced through the win to set up a next round meeting with Tsun Hei Yuen, who beat Matthew Lai.

Elsewhere, Tang Ming Hong sealed his quarter-final spot thanks to a 3-0 win against Ong Sai Hung and he will face off with Bryan Lim Tze Kang for a place in the semi-final after he saw off Macau’s seventh seed Steven Liu.

Tsz Kwan Lau and Mohd Farez Izwan will face off in the other quarter-final fixture after they achieved respective victories over Syed Ali Mujtaba Shah Bokhari and Basem Makram, respectively.
