Romiglio Leads Argentine Trio into Cordoba Open Quarters

Top seed Leandro Romiglio led two more of his fellow Argentine’s into the last eight of the Tour de las Americas – PSA Cordoba Open, PSA M5 tournament after beating Gonzalo Miranda to progress past the first round.

Romiglio, who missed out on the Mar del Plata Open title last week after a final defeat, went two games ahead before Miranda clawed a game back to set up a fourth. Romiglio rallied and stood firm though as he pulled away mid-game to wrap up the win and move through to the last eight.

He will aim to get revenge over Robertino Pezzota, who defeated Romiglio in the Mar Del Plata Open final, in the next round after Pezzota cruised to victory against Juan Gomez Dominguez.

Wildcard Hernan D’Arcangelo was the other home player to achieve a quarter-final berth, with a fine victory against Irish number four seed Stuart Hadden sending him into the next round. D’Arcangelo will face off with Colombia’s Dairo Sandoval next thanks to Sandoval’s victory against Santiago Orozco Parra.

Andres Herrera and Diego Gobbi, seeds two and three, respectively, are also through to the next stage after they rose to respective wins over Mohamed Saeed and Francisco Obregon.

World No.137 Herrera will go head-to-head with Mexico’s Bryan Cueto, who defeated Erick Herrera, while Gobbi is set to face Edgar Zayas after he saw off Rodrigo Pezzota.
