The main draw of the Tour de las Americas – PSA Cordoba Open, PSA M5 tournament features a highly-competitive field, with all but one main draw player hailing from either South or Latin America.

Argentina’s Leandro Romiglio, a silver medallist at last year’s Pan American Games, leads the charge as he looks to recover from a shock final defeat at the hands of Robertino Pezzota during last week’s Mar del Plata Open.

The World No.99 was a heavy favourite to lift the crown on home soil, but fell in four games to his compatriot to miss out on capturing his third PSA World Tour title.

Romiglio will face qualifier Gonzalo Miranda in the opening round – and could be reunited with Pezzota in the quarter-final, if the 33-year-old can make it past the challenge of Mexico’s Juan Gomez Dominguez.

Colombia’s Andres Herrera slumped to an ignominious first round exit last time around in Mar del Plata against Miranda but will hope to make amends for that disappointment with a strong run at this tournament.

The 20-year-old from Bogota shared a court with World No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy during February’s Taeq SquashColombia PSA Open and will make just his second PSA World Tour appearance since then when he takes on Mohamed Saeed in round one.

Brazil’s Diego Gobbi reached the last eight stage in Mar del Plata, where only a defeat to Mexico’s Edgar Zayas prevented him from making it to the semi-final of a PSA World Tour event for the first time.

Gobbi’s has struggled for form so far in 2016, with three first round exits in his last four events, but his agile nature and flamboyant playing style means that he remains one of the most threatening players in the draw. The World No.197 will go head-to-head with Francisco Obregon for a place in the next round.

Ireland’s Stuart Hadden is the only representative in the draw from outside of the Americas and currently sits at a career-high World No.214 ranking. Hadden is yet to reach the quarter-final stage of a PSA World Tour event, but will be hoping to end that streak in Argentina when he comes up against wildcard Hernan D’Arcangelo.
