WWC Update: Massaro Takes Out Kawy to Reach Last Four

“I felt like it was a high pace, we were both trying to get in front of the other one and keep it off each other’s volley. I think both of our strengths are on the volley so I was trying to keep her away from the middle, particularly on that backhand volley drop where she likes to be so much. It was tough on there but I’m glad I managed to sneak it in four in the end.

“I hate to lose and really tried focusing on my game plan at those crucial points and I’m doing what I set out to do before the game started. When it’s tight, a lot of that is physical preparation and fitness because you’ve come through a lot of really tough rallies at that point and it’s really hard to concentrate when you’re tired. I’ve got a lot of confidence in my physical ability at the moment and, when you’re physically fit, you’re normally quite mentally fit as well and I think that’s quite a big thing with me.

“The semi-final of a World Championship is a big match for both of us and it will just be a case of trying to find a way, mentally and physically, to get my best performance out tomorrow and that’s all I ever really want to ask myself. I just want to make sure that I get the best possible performance out and, if that’s good enough to win, then fantastic and, if not, then I’ll be unhappy, but, if you can give yourself a break and know that you played well, then you can be happy.”
