Schnell Strikes In Sacramento

4 April 2016

Canadian Andrew Schnell lived up to his billing as the number one seed at the SVSL Sacramento Open 2016, PSA M5 tournament, as he downed England’s Charlie Johnson in the title-decider to claim his third PSA World Tour title in just five weeks.

After collecting the Lew-Lapointe Discover Mount Royal University Open 2016 and Samson Seattle Open 2016 titles Schnell blasted his way into the Sacramento decider without dropping a game, downing Mexican pairing Ricardo Lopez and Miled Zarazua before seeing off Faraz Khan to set up a finale with unseeded Johnson, who had beaten number three seed Jan Van Den Herrewegen in a gruelling 3-2 encounter to reach the first final of his career.

Unfortunately for Johnson he could do nothing to halt the charge of Schnell, who played with composure and control throughout the match to take all three game 11-5 and continue his impeccable recent run of form.

Result – Final:
[1] Andrew Schnell (CAN) bt Charlie Johnson (ENG) 3-0: 11-5, 11-5, 11-5
