BritOpen Update: Kawy Comes Back To Eliminate Evans

21 March 2016

Egyptian World No.6 Omneya Abdel Kawy came from 2-0 down to record a remarkable comeback win over Welsh talent Tesni Evans in the first round of the Allam British Open today.

A serial semi-finalist on the PSA World Tour Kawy started sluggishly and looked out of sorts during an opening two games that saw Evans play with intent and purpose to pressure the Egyptian into making error after error as she opened up a two game lead.

It looked like the Welsh World No.24 was on the way to recording the biggest win of her career, as she regularly held a slender advantage in the third, but Kawy showed why she has consistently been one of the top ranking players on tour for the past decade as she fought back to win a crucial third game 11-8.

The fourth was straight-forward for Kawy and she was causing as she earned match ball at 10-6 in the fifth. But high drama ensued as she squandered all four opportunities before then twice saving match ball to finally convert and deny Evans an historic win.

Result:
[6] Omneya Abdel Kawy (EGY) bt [Q] Tesni Evans (WAL) 3-2: 9-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 15-13 (61m)
