Egyptian powerhouse Omar Abdel Meguid and comeback queen Fiona Moverley have been named as the PSA World Tour Players of the Month for February after enjoying remarkable successes in recent tournaments.

Egyptian giant Meguid kicked off the month of February in superb fashion, reigning victorious at the Oregon Open in Portland, US.

Seeded number one for the event, expectations were high for the World No.31 and he certainly didn’t disappoint, beating qualifier Addeen Idrakie and number seven seed Arturo Salazar to set up a mouth-watering semi-final clash against Germany’s Raphael Kandra.

Despite losing the first game, Meguid overcame his German opponent 3-1 to secure his place in the final, where he faced fellow compatriot and number two seed Karim Ali Fathi. In a classic encounter, Meguid fought back from 2-1 down to clinch the final 3-2 after a thrilling spectacle in Portland – sealing the Oregon Open and his first title of 2016 in the process.

Less than a week after his gargantuan exploits, the 27-year-old was back in action as he travelled to Phoenix for the Ganem Vein Institute Cactus Classic where he again topped the bill as the number one seed.

Meguid began in ominous form and swept aside World No.81 Jaymie Haycocks, Switzerland’s Reiko Peter and World No.67 Mahesh Mangaonkar in the early rounds to set up a title-decider against home favourite Todd Harrity.

In their first ever meeting on the PSA World Tour, Meguid took the early initiative, storming into a commanding 2-0 lead, before Harrity responded to take the third game 11-9. However, determined to add to his Oregon Open success, Meguid powered to a 3-1 win after sealing the fourth game 11-4 to clinch his second PSA World Tour title of the month.

After taking an extended five-year sabbatical away from the sport, Women’s World No.36 Fiona Moverley re-joined the PSA World Tour in 2014 and has bounced back in astonishing style and continues to climb up the World Rankings apace.

In February, Moverley was seeded second for the Corporation Service Company Delaware Open in Wilmington. After benefitting from a bye in round one, the World No.36 kicked off her tournament challenge in impressive style, comfortably defeating English youngster Georgina Kennedy 3-0.

Moverley then faced rising Canadian star Hollie Naughton in the semi-final, who presented a stern test for the Englishwoman.

However, Moverley maintained her impressive run of form, beating Naughton 3-1 to secure her place in the final where she’d meet another Canadian, number four seed Nikki Todd.

Todd was in triumphant mood herself after displacing top seed Siyoli Waters in the semi-final, however Moverley built on her momentum throughout the tournament to clinch a 3-1 victory, sealing the third PSA World Tour title since her comeback began and her biggest title to date.
